The Combined Cadet Force at Fir Vale School

Fir Vale School is one of the few state schools to have a Combined Cadet Force, a Ministry of Defence sponsored youth organisation which provides additional opportunities for our students from Year 8 through to Year 11. We give them opportunities that help develop leadership, responsibility, self-reliance, resourcefulness and endurance. Our values are centred around Respect, Integrity, Service and Excellence.

Introduced in 2018, the Combined Cadet Force at Fir Vale School provides a safe environment where cadets can develop their personal skills as well as their ability to lead and work in a team. Both skills are useful in all walks of life, in the workplace, on the sports field and in other challenges the pupils may encounter in later life. At Fir Vale we are badged to the Medical Corp meaning we also focus on first aid skills to support and highlight the role of this corp. Again these skills are invaluable both inside and outside of school.

The core values of our Combined Cadet Force are:
•     Courage
•     Discipline
•     Respect for others
•     Integrity
•     Loyalty
•     Selfless commitment

Cadets will be expected to attend every Wednesday in well-presented uniform and will have the opportunity to take part in a wide range of activities including:
•     Field craft (how to live outdoors)
      First Aid training
•     Drill (marching)
•     Weapon handling (how to safely conduct drills using a rifle)
•     Physical training
•     Military skills ………….and much more.

Residential Training
One of the highlights for the cadets are training camps provided by the Cadet Force Adult Volunteers (CFAVs). Staying on these camps gives the cadet the chance to make new friends, complete training qualifications and try various activities in a safe environment.
